For sale: The first ever McLaren F1 GTR Longtail can be yours!

Between 1992-98, McLaren built 106 units of its F1 supercar making it very rare. However, the F1 GTR Longtail, which was the ultimate racing version of the F1, is rarer with just 10 built and this one is the very first one ever made and it for sale.

Currently offered by UK exotic car dealer Tom Hartley Jnr, the chassis number on this 1996 model is 19R - but in the order of production, this car is No. 1.

It is the first Longtail variant of the GTR, a car which many enthusiasts consider to be the greatest car ever made.

And in spite of its track-intended build, it is fully road-legal.

And apart for being the first one, it was also used as a development prototype for the entire run of GTR Longtails and participated in numerous Japanese races, including the Suzuka 1,000km.

It is also only one of two GTR Longtails in private ownership meaning this is probably one of the very few occasions when one will be available to buy.

This was the first GTR Longtail to be converted to a road-legal specification. It comes with designer of the F1 Gordon Murray's design book that documents the conversion from race car back to road car as well as the history of the car.

The parts which had been changed over were also kept safe and they all come with the car.

This one got the nickname "Squiggles" due to the vibrant markings on the body to exaggerate the changes that were made.

Why was it called the Longtail? That is because it had a lengthened rear bodywork and a bigger rear wing to give it better aerodynamic properties than the standard F1 GTR.

Power is supplied by its 6.0-litre BMW V12 that makes an air restrictor-controlled 600 horsepower and is mated to an X-Trac six-speed sequential transmission.

So, how much does it cost? Well, considering that regular F1s sell for around $15 million and baring in mind that this one is amongst the rarest examples of the car ever made, it is safe to assume it will cost way, way more...
