All-new Expedition combines powerful EcoBoost engines, cutting-edge tech, and versatility
There’s something refreshingly honest about a vehicle that unapologetically wears its size, purpose, and heritage on its sleeve. The Ford Expedition has been that kind of vehicle since its debut in the late ’90s – built on the trusted bones of the F-150 pickup, engineered to tow, haul and carry families in comfort across vast distances. It was never about chasing trends but about getting the fundamentals of space, power and durability right. In the years since, it has evolved – growing smarter, stronger and more refined – without losing its rugged American charm.
Now, with the fifth-generation Expedition officially launched in the UAE, Ford is reintroducing its full-size offering at a time when SUV buyers expect more than just size. In the absence of the Toyota Sequoia, the Expedition’s main competition in the UAE comes from American rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon, along with the new Patrol, which is essentially the Armada – the Expedition’s traditional rival in the US, and possibly the Land Cruiser. The latest iteration is clearly designed to reclaim its place at the full-size SUV table alongside these.
Under the bonnet, the Expedition offers twin‑turbocharged 3.5‑litre EcoBoost V6 engines with either 400hp/651Nm or a more potent 440hp/691Nm in the Platinum Stealth and Tremor variants. These powerplants are paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox and benefit from lightweight aluminium construction – specs meant to strike a balance between spirited performance and reasonable efficiency. Though numbers don’t tell the whole story, on paper the Expedition stacks up credibly against its rivals.
Perhaps most notable is the introduction of the Tremor variant, positioned as the most off-road-capable Expedition yet, and an honest attempt at delivering serious ability straight from the factory. It features re-tuned suspension and electric power-assisted steering, Raptor-inspired running boards and a front skid plate, integrated off-road lights behind the grille, and underbody protection for the front axle, transfer case and fuel tank. With 33-inch all-terrain tyres, 10.6-inch ground clearance, and tailored drive modes and terrain management systems including Rock Crawl Mode and Trail Turn Assist, the Tremor is clearly designed to take the fight to similarly equipped Tahoe and Yukon AT4/Denali packages – or even to the region’s off-road staples like the Patrol and the Land Cruiser.
Inside, the Expedition makes a significant leap forward. The cabin is defined by a 24-inch panoramic digital display and Ford’s new Digital Experience interface, designed for personalisation and ease of use. It blends familiar smartphone-like functionality with a layout designed to keep your eyes closer to the road – an important touch in such a large vehicle. With up to eight seats and clever cargo management solutions like the Split Gate tailgate and a flexible third row, the Expedition remains practical without losing sight of modern expectations for connectivity and comfort.
The safety story is strong too, with six airbags, a three‑row curtain system, and a full suite of driver-assist technologies including BLIS, lane‑keeping, and pre-collision assist. When it comes to towing – a critical consideration for many full-size SUV buyers in the UAE – the Expedition holds its own with a class-leading towing capacity of over 4,350kg and helpful tech like Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist, designed to make hitching and reversing with a trailer far less stressful.
The new Ford Expedition doesn’t reinvent the full-size SUV segment, but it certainly refines it. Combining proven powertrain technology, credible off-road hardware, modern cabin ergonomics and practical family features, it delivers a strong alternative to the Tahoe, Yukon, Patrol, and Land Cruiser. Starting at Dh269,225, it offers considerable value too, especially when factoring in a five-year warranty and service package.
The 2025 Expedition presents a thoroughly modern, well-rounded package for families and adventurers who need space, power and versatility – and who are open to stepping outside the established choices.
