Paying heed to the wishes of its stars, the producers of upcoming Bollywood flick Anjaana Anjaani, Eros International, have decided to postpone the release of the romantic comedy by a week.

The film’s release has been pushed to September 30th in the UAE since its original release date in India – September 24 would have coincided with the verdict of the controversial Ramjanmbhoomi-Babri Masjid issue.

In an email Monday, sources at Eros confirmed the postponement but said an official announcement will be made later in the day. The film will now release on October 1 across India, it said.

The 51-year-old Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case refers to a 1992 incident when a 16th century Babri Mosque in north India was demolished by Hindu funtamentalist groups in December, triggering communal violence across India, leaving hundreds dead.

Earlier on Sunday, stars Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor had voiced their concerns at a press conference in Mumbai about releasing their film on such a sensitive day.

“It is an important day for the country. I hope there is no dispute and the decision is favourable to all. Audiences may not be able to go watch the film on that day,” Kapoor told reporters. Priyanka echoed similar views.

“It is a big day for all of us. Even I think the film should not be released on September 24 when such a big decision is going to be announced,” Priyanka said. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the movie is a romantic comedy about two desperate strangers who fall in love at a crucial point in their lives.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan-starrer Dabangg - an Eid release - is continuing with its bull-run at the box-office, breaking previous records.
