DUBAI: A Dubai resident has been arrested for murder in the Indian city of Shahjahanpur after he allegedly slit the throat of a British businessman and longtime friend in front of his son.
The nine-year-old told local police that his mother smothered his father Sukheet Singh, 34, with a pillow while her Dubai-based Indian lover Gurpreet hit him with a hammer and then cut his throat with a butcher’s knife.
It is believed that they had spiked the family’s dinner with sleeping pills before carrying out the horrific attack earlier this month.
Gurpreet was arrested minutes before he was due to board a flight to Dubai while Sukhjeet’s wife Ramandeep Kaur Mann turned herself in to local police. Both were paraded before local media with their heads covered before being producted before the local court.

“My dad was great but my mom is bad. I don’t want to see her face ever because she killed my dad in front of my eyes. She kept a pillow on my dad’s face and asked G.S. to slit his throat,” Sukhjeet’s son who is the sole eyewitness in the case told police.
The British High Commission in New Delhi is also following the investigations as the family held British passports.
Singh, who lived in Derbyshire arrived in New Delhi on July 28 with his wife of 11 years and two children aged six and nine for an extended family vacation before they were joined by Gurpreet.
According to police, Kaur started a sordid illicit affair with her husband’s friend Gurpreet when the couple visited Dubai in November 2015 for a 10-day holiday. The two stayed in touch after that and chatted regularly. Gradually, the relationship grew serious and they decided to kill Sukhjeet, police said.
