Abu Dhabi: Starting Saturday, Oman will lift the lockdown imposed on Muttrah since April 1, as part of precautions against the spread of the novel coronavirus, Dr Ahmad Bin Mohammad Al Saidi, Health Minister said.
Al Saidi added that parts of the province will remain closed for a short period.
Commercial activities will be allowed to function from 7am to 7pm, said Dr. Saif Al Abri, Director General of Disease Control Department at the Ministry of Health.
Al Abri explained that the industrial activities in the Grand Valley region will not be allowed, and the Mutrah commercial market will not be opened, indicating that the old Mutrah neighborhood and the Hamriyah neighborhood will remain closed for two weeks.
The isolation went into effect on April 1 with roads to the province being closed, but entry of trucks, supplies and medical services to the province were facilitated.
Omani authorities have taken a raft of precautions aimed at limiting the spread of the highly infectious virus in the country. They include suspending flights, stopping the issuance of tourist visas and banning public gatherings.
