Defendant was too drunk when he stood behind 13-year-old who was taking photos near stage
Dubai A worker has been jailed for three months for molesting a minor girl during an Indian concert that she was attending with her parents at Al Mamzar Park.
The 22-year-old Pakistani worker, M.J., stood very close to the 13-year-old girl from behind and molested her while she had been recording the performers with her mobile in October.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted M.J. of molestation.
The girl broke down in tears as she rushed back to her father and informed him what had happened.
Prosecutors accused M.J. of drinking and molestation.
The accused admitted that he consumed liquor but denied the molestation charge.
“The accused will be deported after serving his jail term. He will be prosecuted before the Misdemeanours Court for drinking,” said presiding judge Mohammad Jamal in courtroom three on Sunday.
Records said M.J. molested the girl over her clothes as he exposed himself.
The girl’s father said the incident happened at 9.30pm while he and his family were attending a concert.
Groped
“My girl went close to the stage to shoot some images. Ten minutes later, she returned and was crying and looked frightened. When I asked her what had happened, she said someone had groped her. I walked her to the spot where she claimed that she had been molested. Once she pointed at the suspect … I restrained him and called the police,” said the father.
A policeman testified that he could not ask the girl what had happened because she was scared and cried a lot.
“The suspect was too drunk at the time of his arrest,” he claimed.
The girl told prosecutors that she felt someone’s body touching hers from behind.
“He molested me and when I turned back, he had exposed himself. When he tried to do something bad to me I ran away and told my parents what happened,” she said.
Sunday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
