Muscat: A 31-year-old Filipina waitress, Pinky Pamittan, was murdered by her colleague on Wednesday, after she refused to have sex with him, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) have said.

The Indian man beat her, strangled her and then threw her body in a wadi behind Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, an ROP official, speaking to Gulf News, said.

She also owed him 20 riyals (around Dh190) and refused to pay him back, the official said.

An initial investigation revealed that the victim had several disputes with her colleagues who worked with her at Qurum Hotel in Muscat.

The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.

Pamittan moved to Oman several years ago and has a son and husband back home whom she sends money to.

Her mother, Alice Pamittan, told local media that Pinky was supposed to celebrate her 32nd birthday on November 6.

Pattiman’s friends posted messages of condolences and sympathy for the family under the hashtag #JusticeforPinky on Facebook and Twitter.

Mariah Jamico, a user, said that her heart and soul is in pain.

“It is truly devastating. I know the reason why you were working abroad was to help your child and family. You don’t deserve this barbaric treatment. We will seek for justice for your death,” said Mariah.

In August 2012, 51-year-old Maria Lourdes, a Filipina gym instructor at a health club in the capital Muscat, was murdered by another Filipina woman working in the same gym.

She was found dead in her apartment in Qurum suburb after being stabbed to death with a kitchen knife.

Murder is rare in Oman. In 2015, only six murders were reported.
