Dubai: A female visitor has been accused of sending an email in which she threatened to kill a businessman.

The 49-year-old Canadian woman, D.M., was said to have left a voice message on the Pakistani businessman’s mobile phone in which she threatened to kill him in September. She also threatened the businessman in writing via email.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of threatening to kill the businessman verbally and in writing.

However there was no mention why the defendant had threatened to kill the man in the available records.

The woman entered a not guilty plea when she defended herself before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

“You did not threaten the claimant or send him any email?” presiding judge Mohammad Jamal asked D.M. in court.

“I did but I was joking. I did not have any criminal intention and I also did not have any intent to harm him. I did not mean it of course … it was a joke and I told the prosecutors that during questioning,” replied the suspect, who remains in custody.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the Canadian abused the internet when she sent an email in which she threatened to destroy the Pakistani. She also called him on his personal mobile and left a voice message in which she also threatened to kill him.

The 45-year-old Pakistani testified to prosecutors that the woman phoned him and left a voice message in which she threatened to kill him.

“She also sent me an email in which she wrote that she would finish me,” he claimed.

The defendant was quoted as telling prosecutors that she had been joking when she threatened the businessman.

A ruling will be heard on November 17.
