Watchman jailed for molesting girl

Dubai: A watchman has been jailed for six months for luring an eight-year-old girl to his room and molesting her after he showed her an indecent video on his phone.

The Syrian girl was playing on her bicycle near the building’s entrance when the Indian watchman, C.A., asked her to come to his room where he molested her in July.

The girl’s father coincidentally discovered what had happened to his daughter when he found Dh2.25 in her hand that she had taken from the accused after the sexual abuse.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted C.A. of molesting the minor girl.

The defendant pleaded innocent when he showed up in court.

“I did not touch her,” he told the court.

According to Tuesday’s ruling, the accused will be deported following the completion of his punishment.

Records said the watchman kissed the girl and groped her after he made her see an illicit movie on his phone.

The father said the incident happened shortly after his daughter asked him for permission to ride her bicycle under the building.

“She went down to play. When I returned home around 4.30pm, I found her standing at the entrance and she seemed disturbed. I took her to the flat where I discovered that she had coins in her hand. She told me that the watchman gave the money to her. When I asked her why, she told me that he kissed her on the mouth and took her to his bedroom. I called the police immediately,” said the father.

The girl told prosecutors that she refused to remove her clothes when the watchman asked her to do so. “He showed me a film on his mobile phone … then he undressed me and touched me indecently on the bed. Then he gave me the coins and I left. When my dad saw me downstairs, I told him what happened,” she was quoted as telling prosecutors.

Tuesday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
