Dubai: The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) received a delegation from the US Embassy in the UAE on Sunday.

During the meeting, DFWAC Director-General Afra Al Basti highlighted the foundation’s efforts in the field of women and children care and protection from violence — the procedures of receiving the victims, how to deal with them and ensure their rights and privacy, as well as the latest statistics and studies about the received cases.

The delegation comprised Ryan Karnes, US Vice Consul, and a number of embassy officials, in addition to three envoys from the US Department of State who were involved in writing the annual report about human trafficking.

Al Basti pointed out that DFWAC provides services for all cases of categories of domestic violence, child abuse and human trafficking, without distinction of colour, nationality or religion, according to the best international practices and in line with international conventions.

Regarding human trafficking issues, she said DFWAC is dealing with this problem in collaboration with various local and international stakeholders and the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, in order to ensure the provision of all means of protection and care for these victims. She also said that DFWAC plans to draw from the United Nations’ experiences in the field of training and development in this category.

Al Basti also reviewed the foundation’s experience in hosting a group of trainees from Afghanistan to train them on how to create and administrate a shelter for victims of violence in various categories, especially violence against women.

The delegation praised the efforts of DFWAC in providing care and protection for women and children — especially for victims of human trafficking — and expressed its admiration for the foundation’s services, and the mechanisms in place for these categories.
