Dubai: It’s a good time to go outdoors this long weekend as weather will be mostly sunny and temperatures will be moderate, although there is a chance of some showers on Saturday and Sunday.

The UAE will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies at times on Friday and the amount of clouds will increase by evening especially in coastal and western areas, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM)

Winds will be moderate to fresh in general, especially over the Arabian Gulf while the Oman Sea will be slight to moderate..

The mercury will be between 20 degrees C to 33 degrees C on Friday in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Fujairah, towards the east, will be cooler with temperatures ranging between 22 degrees C and 27 degrees C.

On Saturday, the skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with a probability of rainfall especially westward and over the coast.

“The best chance for rain will be the western area. It may extend to the northern areas, over the coast. It may reach Dubai but it’s a weak chance based on the models and satellite images,” a forecaster at NCM told Gulf News.

“Right now we have a band of clouds over Kuwait and over some parts of Saudi Arabia. The flow may turn these cloud bands to our areas depending on the situation, depending on the wind speed and how the clouds move. We may get affected but it won’t be similar to what is happening to Kuwait or other parts of Saudi Arabia.”

The forecaster emphasised that NCM is monitoring the weather in the UAE 24/7 and will issue weather bulletins should there be any major changes.

Winds will be moderate to fresh in the afternoon and may become strong especially over the sea. Those outdoors are urged to take caution as wind-blown dust and sand could affect visibility.

The Arabian Gulf will be moderate to rough by afternoon, becoming rough by evening while the Oman sea will be moderate.

A four-degree drop in maximum temperatures is expected in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from 33 degrees C to 29 degrees C on Saturday although the minimum temperature will rise by around five degrees, from 21 degrees C to 26 degrees C.

Similar conditions are expected on Sunday, with a slight chance of rain still on the horizon especially along the coast and over eastern areas.

Forecasters urge motorists to be cautious when driving in case of bad weather.
