Abu Dhabi, Dubai: Medical community leaders in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are using smart technology to streamline better services for consumers.

Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, also known as Seha, has announced a specialised committee for Artificial Intelligence which will work to implement it in medical and operational development.

Artificial intelligence is the ability of machines to simulate the human mind and perform tasks in the most effective way.

Dr Mattar Rashid Al Darmaki, chief executive officer of Seha, said: “Artificial intelligence is a new concept that diagnoses and treats most diseases in a smart way, in accordance with the highest technical standards and practices. It will revolutionise the health sector in UAE.”

Salama records

Salama, launched in February 2016, is a DHA-wide project to enable patients and doctors access medical records through a patient e-portal and ensure that patient e-files are available across all DHA health facilities.

To date, more than 1.4 million DHA patient records and more than 112 million transactions have been transferred to the Salama system.

Amani Al Jassmi, director of Information Technology at the DHA, said that patients will be requested to provide their Emirates ID, medical card and health insurance to streamline the system.

Cold chain of pharmaceuticals

The Dubai Health Authority’s Pharmaceutical Services Department announced the adoption of a smart system that monitors the cold chain of pharmaceuticals to preserve the quality and safety of medication. Cold chain is a temperature-controlled supply chain, which provides an uninterrupted series of refrigerated production, storage and distribution activities.

Dr Ali Al Syed, director of the Pharmaceutical Services Department at the DHA, said: “The pharmaceutical services department adopted an international-standard smart system that monitors, tracks and controls temperatures of medication through smart devices.”

Salem, a health screening system, launched a week ago, ties up with General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affiars and National Emirates ID, helping residents seeking residence visa renewal to retrieve their data in under a minute. It also facilitates quick blood and X-ray tests. Results are communicated electronically to the candidate, making for an efficient health check-up.
