Abu Dhabi: The UAE Foreign Ministry has summoned Hassan Yousuf Sa’ad, Ambassador of Lebanon, to deliver a formal memorandum of protest following the hostile statements made by Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah against Bahrain.
Dr Tarek Ahmad Al Hidan, Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organisation Affairs, expressed the UAE’s severe condemnation of hostile, inflammatory, hateful and rejected remarks, which is blatant interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, inciting violence and terrorism and aimed to destabilise the security and stability of that country.
He added, “The UAE holds the Lebanese government fully responsible for these statements, and demands it issue a clear statement condemning and denouncing such hostile statements.”
Dr Al Hidan said, “These statements are unacceptable interference in Bahrain’s affairs highlighting that the Lebanese government has to take deterrent legal action to ensure that such acts will not be repeated.”
In Riyadh, Dr Abdul Latif Rashid Al Zayani, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, also called in Abdul Sattar Eisa, Lebanese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, protesting Nasrallah’s statements.
The UAE move comes two days after Bahrain summoned Lebanon’s charge d’affaires over the same “hostile statements.”
