Abu Dhabi Police seeks to have safe roads and smoother traffic flow during celebrations
Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi will intensify traffic patrols for safe and smooth vehicle flow during New Year’s celebration in the Capital, Abu Dhabi Police’s Traffic and Patrols Directorate announced on Thursday.
Traffic policemen and patrols will be keeping a watch across highways and streets of Abu Dhabi to prevent them from violating laws and causing public havoc and will combat any form of uncivilised traffic behaviours, said a statement on Thursday.
“As the New Year holiday and celebrations approach, traffic patrols will be intensifying control and surveillance of internal and external roads, particularly during the late night hours in order to curtail any violations of traffic laws and legal speed limits. Violators who show uncivilised driving behaviours such as racing, reckless driving, and other violations that endanger the safety of road users will be facing legal action,” said Brigadier General Khamis Isaac Mohammad, Director, Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police.
He warned drivers against reckless behaviour or speeding and called them to respect and abide by traffic laws and regulations and be cooperative with traffic policemen especially during New Year’s Eve.
“Drivers should not drive under the influence of medication or when they are fatigued or are lacking concentration behind the wheels as this could risk their lives and that of other road users. Parents should also watch out for their children’s driving and behaviour as well and to protect them against friends who have bad influence in them,” concluded Mohammad.
