English play to feature Naseeruddin Shah and wife Ratna

Muscat: Theatre lovers in Muscat are in for a treat when Naseeruddin Shah, one of the finest actors of Indian cinema and theatre, will play the role of George Bernard Shaw, the great English playwright, in the play Dear Liar.
The English play will also feature Ratna Pathak-Shah, Naseeruddin Shah’s talented wife. She will play the role of celebrated English actress Mrs Patrick Stella Campbell, as portrayed in Jerome Kilty’s English play Dear Liar which is based on George Bernard Shaw’s relationship with Stella.
The show will be held at the Oman Auditorium, Al Bustan Palace on September 20, 2013 at 7 PM.
The play is about the correspondence between George Bernard Shaw and Mrs Patrick, the actress who first played Eliza Dolittle in Pygmalion, a classic George Bernard Shaw play, way back in 1914. Dear Liar chronicles their intimate relationship spread over four decades through letters in all their sparking glory.
The 140-minute two-act play, directed by late Pandit Satyadev Dubey, is set in the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The play highlights not only their deep mutual admiration and love but also the crucial era of history (1899-1939) in terms of path-breaking accomplishments in theatre. It also reveals the warm human side of George Bernard Shaw.
Starring in over 100 Hindi, commercial and art movies, Naseeruddin Shah has won several awards. He has also been honoured with both the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Indian cinema and theatre.
Passionate about theatre, Naseeruddin Shah started the Motley Theatre Group in 1979. For over three decades, Motley has brought every possible genre of drama to audiences of professional theatre in India and the world over. With ‘story-telling’ theatre, Motley has found its niche and is serving the purposes of both entertainment as well as education. ‘Dear Liar’ is a Motley Theatre Group presentation.
Ratna Pathak-Shah formed a formidable team with her spouse Naseeruddin Shah in The Perfect Murder, a Merchant Ivory production. A stage and television actress of repute, Ratna continues to act regularly in plays, often for the Motley Theatre Group, as well as Shashi Kapoor’s Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai.
