Three Asian men were arrested red-handed in a sting operation in Al Awir area with more than 54kg of hashish.

Colonel Eid Thani Hareb, Director of Dubai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department, said the department arrested the men on November 16, after acting on intel about the gang’s drug activities.

“We received a tip that the men were looking for someone to transport the drug to a neighbouring country,” he said.

The three men were UAE residents, and where receiving orders from a fourth man — the gang leader — who resided in their home country.

A police officer from the department posed as the driver willing to transport the drugs, and the three men were arrested while trying to negotiate with the undercover police officer.

“The most dangerous member of the gang was M.B.G., 40, who works as a truck driver. He used to store the drugs and sell them following the orders of the gang leader,” Col Hareb said.

The second suspect, R.A.K.,22, was arrested for driving the car that carried the drugs, which they used to get to Al Awir.

A.K.M.B.,28, the third suspect, was the lookout, who kept an eye on the place before and during the meeting.

The arrest resulted in the seizure of around 47kg of the hashish from the car the gang used to get to the meeting point, and another 7.1kg were found in the home of one of the suspects in Abu Dhabi.

The three men have been transferred to the public prosecution on charges of possessing and trafficking drugs. Two of them were also charged for using as they tested positive in the drug tests.
