Despite all the air miles that flydubai’s aircraft have logged around the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa, the India question lingers in the mind of the airline’s Chief Executive Officer Gaith Al Gaith. Acknowledging that it is a huge market, India represents just one per cent of flydubai’s overall capacity. In short, the area has not been served as extensively as he would have wanted.

“It is a huge market for us,” Al Gaith acknowledged. “First of all, it would be an honour to engage the Indian nation. Indians have played an integral part in the development of our country and anything we can do to share with India would be an honour for us. However this is not in our hands,” he continued. “When it comes to starting an operation in any country it is a government-to-government decision on who gets how many seats and why. So suffice to say that when the right environment to do business is created then it would be an honour for us.”

India, according to Al Gaith, makes logical business sense. “It is the largest market and the largest economy in our part of the woods. So we hope for an opportunity to serve in an extensive way.’’

Flydubai currently flies to three stations in India, namely the cities of Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Lucknow.
