Sharjah: His Highness Shaikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved Dh17 million to expand housing units for imams in Sharjah, in accordance with the number and needs of their family members.

The Ruler of Sharjah directed the Directorate of Public Works, DPW, to speed up the implementation of housing work.

Eng. Ali Bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, head of DPW, said that the Department, in coordination with the Islamic Affairs Department, carried out on-site visits to all houses of imams that need to be expanded. The study included the number of family members compared to the number of rooms in the housing units, the availability of the required space around the mosque for construction, and the architectural modifications resulting from expansion. The study reached an expansion of 129 houses and divided the work teams into 7 teams. Each team includes supervising the expansion of 20 mosques to be completed within one year of implementation.

According to the study, there are 90 houses in the city of Sharjah ranging from 2 to 3, including 9 one-room, 66 two-room, 12 three-room, and 3 houses of more than 3 rooms.

In the central region, there were 36 houses, of which 3 were one-room, 26 two-rooms, 6 houses with three-rooms, and one house with more than 3 rooms, in the eastern region, there were 33 houses, of which 3 were one-room, 27 two-rooms and 3 houses with more than 3 rooms.
