Sharjah: A 16-year-old Indian girl died after falling from the seventh floor balcony of her apartment in a building located in Abu Shagara on Tuesday afternoon, an official at Sharjah Police confirmed.

Early investigation by police officers from Al Gharb station suggests the girl may have jumped from an open window of her family flat around 11.30am.

Several eyewitnesses who work and live nearby said they heard a loud crash and when they looked to see what happened, they saw the lifeless body of a girl slumped over the top of a car before it slid to the pavement.

A businessman was working in his nearby office with his employees when he heard a loud noise.

“When I went outside, I saw the place where the girl had fallen. She was between two cars,” he said. “It was like something out of a movie.”

The man rushed to the scene to help but the young girl had already died.

Bystanders called police and ambulance.

A Lebanese woman who lives in the same building on the fifth floor said she saw the girl on the ground after the fall.

“I heard a scream. I went to my balcony and looked down and saw a body on a car. Then her body fell on the ground. People rushed to the girl until the ambulance came and took the girl away,” she said.

Neighbours said the family was nice and quiet and had lived in the building for six years.

The couple’s daughter was the eldest of two children, with the younger child a boy.

Police, meanwhile, confirmed that the parents were being questioned yesterday.

The incident remains under investigation.
