Sharjah: His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), on Wednesday, attended the award ceremony for the winners of the Sharjah Award for the Best PhD Thesis in Administrative Sciences in the Arab World for the 15th cycle, at the UoS campus.

Abdullah Salem Al Tarifi, Chairman of Board of Trustees of the award, commended the efforts of Dr Shaikh Sultan in achieving sustainable development in the emirate of Sharjah at all levels.

Al Tarifi pointed out that Sharjah has always been eager to honour creative researchers and scientists. To translate Dr Shaikh Sultan’s vision of promoting a knowledge-based society, Sharjah has announced various prestigious awards, including the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity, the Sharjah Prize for Literature desktop, Sharjah Award for Plastic Art’s Critical Research, and many other awards in various fields of arts, science, and creativity

During the award ceremony, Dr Shaikh Sultan honoured the winners of the Sharjah Award for the Best PhD Thesis in Administrative Sciences in the Arab World and the founding members of the award.

The award ceremony was attended by Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Tariq Sultan Bin Khadim, Chairman of the Human Resources Department, Mohammad Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of Protocol and Hospitality Department, Dr. Hamid Al Nuaimi, Director of the University of Sharjah, as well as the honourees’ relatives, Board of Trustees members, and other dignitaries.

Dr Shaikh Sultan also opened a Makeshift Clinic of the Elderly and was briefed by Dr Qutayba Hamid, Dean of College of Medicine, about its components.

The clinic aims to reach out elderly citizens and people with special needs across the emirate of Sharjah and will start its operations outside the university in cooperation with the Department of Social Services.

The clinic is equipped with modern radiology devices, ultrasonic diagnosis apparatus and other laboratory devices and will aid early diagnoses for chronic diseases such as diabetes, lung disease and cancers. It is also equipped to treat simple cases.

The clinic was set up in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the University of Sharjah and Department of Social Services.
