Muscat: Saudi foreign minister Adel Al Jubeir arrive in Muscat on Thursday and will meet with top officials to discuss the situation in Yemen and Syria, a diplomatic source told Gulf News.

The sources did not reveal whether Al Jubeir would meet with an Al Houthi delegation currently stationed in Muscat for negotiations on a settlement to the crisis in Yemen.

It is Al Jubeir’s first visit to Oman since he was appointed foreign minister in April.

He was received by Oman’s foreign minister Yousuf Bin Alawi and Eid Bin Mohammad Al Thaqafi, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Oman.

UN sponsored talks to discuss and resolve the situation in Yemen are set to take place in mid-November.

Iran-backed Al Houthi militants have agreed to the talks. Saudi Arabia is leading an Arab coalition in Yemen to restore the legitimate government of Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and to push back Al Houthi militant gains across the country.

Riyadh says that Al Houthi acceptance to attend the talks indicates their weakening position on the ground after a string of territorial losses to coalition forces.
