Manama: An armed man who posted a clip online bragging he had arrested a maid trafficker has been detained by the Saudi police.

The man, a 24-year-old Saudi national, was shown carrying a gun and bullets and holding a frightened man from Ethiopia.

The police said they were able to identify the Saudi man, who admitted that his brother had filmed the clip he posted on social media.

He confessed that the Ethiopian man had come into Saudi Arabia illegally and that he used to work with his father. He claimed the Ethiopian had attempted to smuggle out their Ethiopian domestic helper.

The Saudi said that his gun was not licenced and that he used it to frighten the Ethiopian worker.

According to Fawaz Al Miman, the spokesperson for the Riyadh police, the Saudi man has been remanded in custody and will face charges of carrying an unlicensed gun, breaking the rules by employing an illegal expatriate and making a bogus report.

Online viewers applauded the action by the police, saying that it was the proper way to deal with people who exploited and abused people before making claims they wanted to take the law into their own hands.
