Muscat: The Oman Road Safety Association (Orsa) has intensified its road safety campaign with a ‘Safer Kids, Safer Oman’ drive.
Oman’s sporting heroes turned up for awareness activities at the Traffic Educational Village event at Muscat City Centre recently.
“The aim of the event was to shed light on the use of roads in relation to pedestrians, cyclists and passengers in vehicles among children and their families,” said Shaima Murtadha Al Lawati, Orsa’s Chief Executive Officer.
Activities at the Traffic Educational Village included colouring for children, distribution of flyers, talks about the dangers of speeding and the importance of seat belts and child restraints as well as the dangers of using mobile phones and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations. Orsa also partnered with Safety First to raise awareness on the use of child restraints in cars.
“We are actively promoting the ‘Safer Kids... Safer Oman...’ campaign through the Traffic Educational Village which helps in demonstrating the correct road safety practices to children and their parents,” Shaima added.
“We continue to reach out to all citizens in Oman to educate them and the general public on the best practices in road safety based on the latest global methods to keep our children safe while using the roads,” she said.
She thanked ‘Safety First’ for offering a platform to educate and promote the cause.
“We would also like to thank our heroes; Hamed Al Wahaibi, Ali Al Habsi, Ahmad Al Harthy, Fatima Al Nabhani, Khalid Al Shabibi and Sayyid Nasr Al Bu Saidi for their continuous support and effective presence during the event.”
The Traffic Educational Village event is one of many events held in line with the ‘Safer Kids, Safer Oman…’ campaign which was launched this year.
The campaign includes a series of activities at different governorates of the Sultanate. The most recent event was supported by the renowned national cyclist, Khalid Bin Mohammad Al Shabibi, during which he kicked off an awareness tour across the country from Al Buraimi through Sohar, Khaboura and Barka and finished in Muscat where the Village was opened in Muscat City Centre earlier this month.
