Abu Dhabi: An Emirati accused of driving recklessly in a neighbouring country has been declared wanted by the Public Prosecution, it was announced on Sunday.

UAE nationals can be prosecuted inside the country even if they commit a crime abroad so long as they are not punished in the overseas location, the prosecution said.

A video shared on social media showed the suspect performing dangerous stunts with his vehicle and making loud noises to draw attention.

Investigations confirmed the accused had travelled to a GCC country by land where he carried out the crime and captured it on video to be shared online.

Ali Mohammad Abdullah Al Baloushi, Attorney-General of Abu Dhabi, urged UAE nationals to abide by laws and regulations abroad and to be good ambassadors of their country.

In September, police arrested Emirati E.S., 24, and his compatriot after he was shown driving dangerously in a UAE-licensed Land Cruiser while on vacation abroad. He was arrested upon his arrival to Abu Dhabi.

The prosecution and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously requested Emiratis to make their presence in other locations known through the Ministry’s Tawajedi (my whereabouts) application or on their website. This helps Emirati travellers to avail from services in case of emergencies.
