It is illegal in Oman to post private pictures of people without their permission
Muscat: An Omani found guilty of posting revealing pictures of his girlfriend on Instagram was sentenced on Thursday to one month in jail and fined 2,000 Omani riyals, half of of which his ex-girlfriend would receive for compensation.
The man posted the pictures to hurt his girlfriend after they had a fight.
The case shed light on other crimes where victims are blackmailed to pay money in order not to post private pictures on social media.
Article 16 of Oman’s cyber law stipulates that anyone who publishes new or pictures of someone’s private life can be jailed and fined.
