Muscat: In humbling act, an Omani father forgave a woman who killed his four-year-old son in a run-over accident last week.

Mu’ath Al Jasasi, died last week in Ibri hospital after succumbing to severe injuries sustained in the crash.

The Omani woman accidentally ran over the child who was crossing a road in Nakheel area of Ibri province.

Mu’ath was on his way to visit his uncle’s house.The child’s father, Abdullah, visited the woman’s house in Ibri after she asked him to forgive her.

“I wanted to show her that I truly forgave her. I know she did not run over my sweet child intentionally,” he told Gulf News.

Abdullah said he did not want the woman to carry the guilt with her for the rest of her life.

Social media users praised Abdullah for his act of compassion and said his actions proved his strong faith in God.

Police did not say whether the woman would face any charges, but under Oman’s Traffic Law authorities are allowed to hold anyone who killed someone unintentionally in a traffic accident for 48 hours.

Seven children were killed in run-over accidents in Oman in 2016, compared to four in 2015, according to police figures.

Abdullah said his son’s death is a reminder for all parents to not let their children cross roads unsupervised.

“Mu’ath was a good and kind-hearted child,” Abdullah said.

“I loved him very much.”
