Muscat: The Royal Oman Police arrested an expatriate worker from the Ghala Industrial suburb in Muscat on the charge of murder, according to a press release.

“The victim’s body was found on the main road of Azaiba area,” a spokesman for the ROP said, adding that police investigations led them to the suspect, who admitted that he had hit the victim to death with a blunt object, and also confessed to other crimes he had committed in the past.

The police did not reveal the nationality of the accused or the victim. The ROP have referred the case to the Public Prosecution for a court trial.

The police thanked residents for cooperating in the case that helped them nab the accused.

In another case, ROP officers in Oman’s southern region arrested an Asian expatriate on charges of illegally selling alcohol in the Mirbat area of Dhofar region, about 1,050-km south of Muscat.

“We had information that a residential dwelling was used for selling alcohol, so after keeping a close watch and ensuring that the information was correct, our officers raided the premises,” the ROP spokesman said, adding that during the raid the ROP sleuths found the accused with 96 bottles and two crates of alcoholic beverages.

“The accused was arrested and after initial inquiries was handed over to the Public Prosecution for further action,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ROP continued the crackdown against illegal residents in the country with the arrests of 510 infiltrators in a day on Tuesday.

“About 181 were held in Buraimi for violating Oman’s residency laws while 329 were arrested from Rustaq town in Batinah region,” he added.

“All the arrested were from different Asian countries and the raids were carried out with the help of officials of the Manpower Ministry,” the police spokesman said.
