Al Ain: Red flags have risen all along the western coastline following the day-long rain across the country on Saturday as meteorologists warn of windy and rough sea conditions amid forecast of more scattered rain on Sunday.
Authorities monitoring Dubai coastal areas have declared swimming and joyriding as risky at least for today. Red flag warning has been issued for beaches including Al Mamzar, Jumeriah open peach, Umm Suqeim 1, 2 and 3, Palm Jumeirah, Al Sofooh, DEWA, Dubal, and Palm Jebel Ali beaches.
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has also warned people to stay away from the sea and beaches all along the western coastline from Sila up to Ras Al Khaimah.
“Sea will be rough to very rough in the Arabian gulf, and rough in the Gulf of Oman,” said the NCMS’ weather alert.
The conditions will be windy due to the cold and strong north-westerly (Shamal) winds, reaching up to 60km/h, especially over the sea. Wind is also likely to kick up sand and dust in the inland areas, reducing horizontal visibility at times, said the duty forecaster at the national weather bureau.
The weather will be hazy and partly cloudy in general on Sunday, becoming cloudy at times especially over the northern and eastern areas with chance of rain this morning. The centre also expects another significant fall in the daytime temperatures across the emirates. The maximum temperature will be around 23 degree Celsius, falling down to 8c at night.
The highest rainfall, recorded until 5:45pm yesterday, was 8.4mm at Jebel Jais, followed by 4.4mm in Wadi Al Shoukah, 3.2 in Falaj Al Mulla, 2mm at Dubai airport, and 1.6mm at Sharjah airport and in Al Faqa. It was raining till 1am in Al Ain.
The NCMS has advised motorist to exercise caution behind the steering wheels in areas affected by poor visibility and wet roads.
