Dubai: The wet spell in the eastern and southern parts of the country may continue for the next 48 hours.

Parts of Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Al Ain, and the outskirts of Dubai may experience different intensities of rain as convective clouds associated with wet weather remain.

“It will not rain in the city of Dubai but in the outskirts of Dubai close to Fujairah that belongs to the emirate it will,” a forecaster from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said.

Al Beleida and Difta experienced heavy showers on Wednesday afternoon. Hatta recorded 7.6mm of rain as of 4.30pm while Al Ain city received 2.6mm of rain. Saar received moderate showers while Souq Al Jama received light to moderate rain that might increase by late Wednesday.

The Ministry of Environment and Water has collected around 54,000 cubic metres of water (12 million gallons) in the Eastern Region’s dams due to rain on Sunday.

Engineer Mariam Mohammad Hareb, Acting Assistant Undersecretary at the ministry, said that Al Masafi area had heavy rain. She added that the rain led to the filling up of Wadi Ham Dam B, which collected 42,000 cubic metres of water. Al Siji Dam collected 12,000 cubic metres of water.

The weather pattern might weaken by Thursday but some clouds might still develop over the eastern areas on Thursday and Friday.

Abu Dhabi and Dubai will be hazy and mostly sunny on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures will mostly remain in the late 40s similar to Wednesday’s temperatures, which recorded the highest temperature of 47.4 degrees Celsius at 4.30pm.
