Al Ain:  Daytime temperatures as high as 40 degrees Celsius have been giving a feel of summer days across the country. However, according to weathermen, there is hope that the mercury will start sliding soon.

The present conditions may seem unusual to many, but forecasters say it is primarily dictated by changing weather patterns.

Check the weather in the UAE and around the world

"Yes, the mercury appears to be stuck at 40 degrees, but it's not unusual," said a meteorologist.

The beginning of this month saw hot daytime temperatures and high humidity in the evening and at night, across the UAE, with winds being the major contributor to fog formation and poor visibility.

The fog has not been a serious problem anywhere in the emirate so far this season, but forecasters expect a change from the middle of this month. The days are quite hot and there has been a rise in humidity in the coastal areas. However, the evenings are suitable for outdoor activities.

In fact, the interiors and the desert areas have been experiencing cooler nights with low humidity.

The weathermen said all the cities in the emirate have experienced contrasting day and night temperatures.

During daytime, the mercury hovers around the 40-degree mark, while at night it tends to plummet to around 22 degrees Celsius.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said winds would generally be blowing at a speed of two to six knots, in the next 48 hours, but may gain speed up to nine knots by afternoon and evening in some areas.

The weather is currently under the influence of south-easterly and north-westerly winds.

Conditions

However, the direction is expected to change to north-westerly and north-easterly and it may also kick up some dust and sand in certain areas.

"Relatively hot weather is expected around midday over internal areas and mild-to-pleasant conditions are expected at night," said an NCMS official, adding that some towering clouds may also appear over the eastern areas by afternoon.

"Humidity will increase at night and early morning over some internal and coastal areas with probability of fog formation in some areas," he added.

Maximum humidity in the coastal and even desert areas is expected to go up to 99 per cent at times.
