Dubai: Scattered rains lashed parts of Dubai on the first working day of the New Year. Showers along with lightning and thunder were also reported from Sharjah and Ajman.

NCMS has tweeted a video of an aircraft engaged in cloud seeding and said the process has been going on since morning.  However, authorities have clarified that seeding is not the cause of the current weather conditions.

Residents welcomed the first rains of the year and so far there are no reports of any major traffic disruptions due to the weather conditions.

Abu Dhabi

At 19 degrees Centigrade, Abu Dhabi city was cloudy and wet as people continued about their daily activities driving more cautiously.

In construction sites, work had stopped due to the high winds (17.6km/h) and the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology: “Warned against scattered rain associated with fresh to strong winds. Sea is also rough to very rough over the off-shore”.

“I had no trouble getting to work today although has soon as the rain fell, construction work had to stop due to the weather and its harmful effects on our workers if they were to proceed working,” said a Construction Manager at a large villa project in the capital.

Gulf News reader Raees Ul Haq said it is raining heavily in Dubai and Sharjah and has tweeted these pictures.
