Dubai: Thick fog disrupted Air Arabia services at Sharjah International on Sunday morning with poor visibility resulting in a number of delays and diversions, according to an airline spokesperson.

Heavy fog and mist descended on parts of the UAE early Sunday morning, with reduced visibility in Dubai’s Al Minhad and Abu Dhabi’s Liwa areas, the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology tweeted. Fog was also reported in parts of Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah.

Several Air Arabia flights to Sharjah International, the United Arab Emirates’ third busiest airport, diverted to Al Ain International, Fujairah International and Ras Al Khaimah International, the spokesperson told Gulf News on Sunday.

The spokesperson did not say which flights diverted or how many services were affected by the diversions. However, according to flight tracking website flightradar24, Air Arabia flight 284 from Istanbul’s second airport, Sabiha Gökçen International, diverted to Ras Al Khaimah. A further twelve flights from Sharjah International on Sunday morning were delayed due to the weather conditions, the spokesperson said.

Sharjah International’s operator, Sharjah Airport Authority, did not reply to an emailed request for comment.
