Abu Dhabi: The mercury has been rising across the UAE over the weekend, and the sweltering temperatures show no signs of dropping tomorrow (May 31).

However, such a rise in temperature is typical of this time of year in the UAE, meteorologists at the National Centre for Meterology and Seismology (NCMS), told Gulf News.

“The average temperature are as expected in late May and early June. In coastal areas, they have ranged between 33 and 40 degrees Celsius, while interior areas are hotter at 40 to 45 degrees Celsius. In the mountainous areas, the temperature has been between 28 and 34 degrees Celsius,” the weather expert said.

The increase in temperature is brought about by hot southerly and south-easterly winds, and is expected to continue tomorrow (May 31).

Meanwhile, relative humidity has remained at about 60 to 85 per cent in coastal areas.

However, on Monday (June 1), the wind direction is likely to change.

“These northerly winds will come in from the sea, and will therefore be cooler. We can expect temperatures to drop then by about two to three degrees Celsius,” the meteorologist said.

At the same time, the seaborne winds will increase the level of humidity, and some mist and fog can be expected during the late night. Some low clouds are also expected to form over mountainous areas.

“In the meantime, there will be slight to moderate waves in the sea during this period,” the meteorologist added.
