Dubai: Moderate to heavy rain lashed some areas of the UAE from Thursday afternoon, with more showers expected over the weekend. Rains continued on Friday in many areas.

Light to heavy rain hit the eastern parts of the country, according to forecasters.

Heavy rains were reported over Dibba-Masafi Road in Fujairah while Wadi Al Hilo-Kalba Road received moderate rain. Al Ejeili Tuwa got light showers.

Fujairah Police temporarily closed Yabsa Road from both directions due to rain. Police urged motorists to use alternative roads.

“The rain clouds are mainly in the eastern and mountain areas today (Thursday). By Friday and Saturday, we expect heavier rain not only in the eastern parts but also in the northern parts, that is from Ras Al Khaimah to Fujairah and the islands,” a forecaster from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology told Gulf News.

“These showers are normal at this time of the year because winter has begun. So rains are to be expected, even more so by the end of November and until December.”

The rest of the country, however, will be fair and partly cloudy. Humidity is likely to increase by evening with Abu Dhabi getting a maximum of 75 per cent, Dubai getting 80 per cent and Sharjah hitting 85 per cent on Friday.

The average temperature is expected to remain the same with the mercury hovering between 20C to 24C for the minimum and 30C to 34C for the maximum temperature.

The Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea will be moderate, becoming rough with cloud activity.
