Dubai: Moderate to heavy rain lashed mountainous areas near Hatta and Fujairah when residents in other parts of the country were sweltering in hot and humid conditions on the first day of Eid Al Fitr on Wednesday.

A maximum of 2.4mm of rainfall was recorded in Al Ejeili area and a minimum of 1mm was recorded over Al Maleha area. Other surrounding areas including Masafi and Shouka also received moderate to heavy rain.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said the rain was caused by condensed clouds that formed due to the convergence of the humid and moist air from the Arabian Sea and the northern winds from the Gulf Sea.

The highest temperature of 47.7 degree Celsius was recorded in Um Azimul, south of Abu Dhabi, at 2.15pm, and the lowest temperature recorded was 26C at Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at 5.30am.

The coastal areas recorded 39C to 44C and the internal areas experienced 44C to 48C. However, residents would feel more heat due to the high humidity levels, a spokesperson at the NCMS said, adding that similar conditions would prevail on the second day of Eid as well.
