Al Ain: Rise in humidity has triggered fog formation in most parts of the UAE on Thursday, amid dying down winds that battered the country for almost a week. North-westerly winds are, however, likely to push the mercury down again.

Weather conditions have slightly improved with a slight rise in temperature but nights are still cold. “We expect pleasant daytime conditions during the weekends,” said weather forecasters. They, however, warned people to stay away from the sea. The Arabian Gulf waters and the Gulf of Oman will be moderate to rough during the next 48 hours.

Some weather models have been suggesting another fall in temperature from Saturday. The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) in Abu Dhabi said north-westerly winds could kick up dust and sand on Saturday, also making the sea rough to very rough again.

Fog will continue to form in most of the coastal and internal areas late in the night and early in the morning. The expected conditions require motorists to exercise caution while driving in the foggy conditions.

People planning outdoor night parties have been asked to take proper warm clothes with them as it could be cold especially for children and elderly people. Sea trips are, however, not advisable. Weather is likely to be partly cloudy at times on Friday especially in the eastern emirates.

The NCMS said winds were blowing at a speed of 40km/h over the Arabian Gulf on Thursday that generated some six feet high waves.

Fog blanketed most to the areas reducing visibility. Horizontal visibility went down to just 200 meters in Jebel Ali and 700 meters in Sharjah. The conditions were foggier in the southern emirates.

Temperature on Thursday were recorded at 13 degree Celsius to 25 degree Celsius in the coastal areas, 5C to 30C in the internal, and 9C to 19C in the mountainous areas.

Weather on Saturday is likely to be fair and slightly hazy at times. Fresh north-westerly winds will blow with slightly higher speed in the western areas.
