Dubai: The national weather bureau has warned motorists to drive safely for the next 24 hours due to poor visibility, especially in the morning, as there will be strong winds that will stir up sand and dust.

Strong south-easterly winds might cause visibility to deteriorate to 2,000 metres in the inland parts of the country, especially in the morning on Thursday. Visibility was down to 4,000 metres in Abu Dhabi between 9am and 10am on Wednesday; the ideal is 10,000 metres, according to a forecaster at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology.

On Wednesday, south-easterly winds will blow at 20 to 28km/h, that may reach 37km/h at times along the coast, becoming north-easterly by afternoon. Winds coming from the same direction with speeds of between 25km/h and 30km/h, reaching 40km/h at times, will hit inland.

The forecaster said probability of rain was high over the eastern part of the country in the mountains close to Fujairah, reaching the neighbouring parts of Al Ain. Different intensities of rain were recorded in these parts of the country on Tuesday, with Al Faqa recording the maximum at 11.6mm.

Temperatures will be between 40 degrees Celsius and 47C during the daytime on Thursday dropping to 26C and 33C at night.
