Fujairah police staff helping stranded vehicle

Fujairah: Life returned to normal for most residents in northern emirates after heavy rains lashed the mountainous regions of Fujairah and eastern parts of Sharjah on Sunday morning.

Some homes were flooded and authorities in Al Sharayah, Kalba and Khorfakkan rescued affected families and moved them to hotels or safer areas.

Fujairah resident Rafiq P.M., 30, from India, said his room in a villa in Fasil area was flooded after a stormwater drain overflowed.

“I will go stay with my brother in Abu Dhabi until the water subsides and the sun dries out the dampness. I will clean up the room after that,” he said.

Water pumps and tankers were deployed to clear flooded streets in Fujairah.

Police rescued 25 families in Al Sharayah area in Fujairah after rainwater flooded their homes.

The families were sheltered in hotels, according to instructions given by Shaikh Mohammad Bin Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah.

Fujairah Police led by Major General Mohammad Ganem Al Kaabi, Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, and Fujairah Charity Association were working together to evacuate affected families and transfer them to alternative accommodations.

Traffic officers were also busy on the roads regulating traffic and helping affected motorists .

In Sharjah’s eastern region, mainly in Kalba and Khor Fakkan, police teams led by deputy police chief, Brigadier Abdullah Al Ameri, were working to evacuate families to safe places, especially in cases where houses were damaged by the heavy downpour.

No drowning or accident cases were registered in the emirate, Brigadier Al Ameri said .

Evacuated residents were transported by buses to two schools in Kalba and then transferred to safer places.

Sharjah Police community section in cooperation with Red Crescent authorities are working to provide accommodation to affected families.
