UAE residents can enjoy a brief respite from last week’s hot weather as the mercury is forecast to drop a few degrees across the country on Sunday with rain clouds expected to form in the east.

Weather on Sunday is likely to be fair in general but hazy and partly cloudy at times, according to the weather bulletin from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS). The northwesterly winds will kick up dust and sand in exposed areas over the western region and also cause a 4C to 5C drop in temperatures over the same area.

On Sunday, the generally hotter internal areas will have a maximum temperature of 43C to 46C, down from 45C to 49C on Tuesday last week. Coastal areas will be between 38C and 42C, while mountainous areas will be between 32C and 35C.

Towering cumulus or rain clouds may develop over the eastern mountainous areas by Sunday and Monday afternoon due to a low pressure.

“There is a circulation of trough over the eastern part and the northwesterly wind from the Oman Sea is bringing moist air that leads to the increase in the amount of clouds. These clouds may sometimes become towering cumulus over the east on Sunday and Monday. Towering cumulus clouds, in general, are associated with showers. But we can see only light to moderate rain due to the lifetime of the clouds, ranging from 30 to 45 minutes, not more,” a forecaster told Gulf News.

Other parts of the country will be hot and hazy at times during the day due to light to moderate winds on Monday.

Relative humidity is expected to increase on Monday night and early morning Tuesday causing fog or mist to form over some coastal and internal areas.

Arabian Gulf will be moderate to slight while the Oman Sea will be moderate to rough at times.
