Al Ain: Dense fog continued to trouble early morning drivers for a third consecutive day on Wednesday, with visibility dropping down to zero in some areas.

Extreme caution has been advised by the traffic police and weather forecasters, asking drivers to maintain safe distance from the vehicles ahead and follow the rules and regulations if driving cannot be avoided in the foggy conditions.

Reduced visibility has already proved hazardous on highways with Tuesday's pileup on Dubai Outer Bypass Road and the national weather bureau continues to forecast possibility of fog in Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, Sharjah and Dubai.

Al Ain-Dubai Road and some internal areas of Abu Dhabi are also covered with fog clouds that  went deep into the western region of the emirate. The fog is expected to continue until weekend.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said fog started developing at around 1am and dense fog covered the areas at dawn. It is expected to gradually clear at around 9:30am.

In its forecast for the day, the centre said that the weather would turn relatively hot later in the day. The conditions would be mild and humid by night, and weather could become partly cloudy over some eastern areas at times.

Winds would be light to moderately rough becoming stronger by afternoon. Relative humidity is likely to increase in the coastal and internal areas at night, setting condition for fog development on Thursday morning. Read more weather updates
