Dubai: After a day of deluge and heavy thunderstorm, UAE residents woke up to clear, sunny skies Thursday as the low pressure affecting the country began to weaken.

Wet weather had let up so far on Thursday morning but the chances of rainfall still persisted over some parts of the UAE.

“The intensity of instability conditions will weaken during afternoon while the amount of clouds will increase over scattered northern and eastern areas accompanied with towering clouds with chances of scattered rain shower,” the Thursday weather alert for the UAE Met Office read.

The RTA urged Dubai road-users heading to and from Abu Dhabi to use Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road due to the accumulation of rain water on Shaikh Zayed Road.

As of 8.45am, the mass of rain clouds was spotted down south in Oman with its tail crossing the border of Saudi Arabia, according to a satellite image from the Met Office’s website.

According to Accuweather, there is a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorm in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah during the day but may otherwise be partly to mostly sunny.

The Abu Dhabi Air Expo 2016, held at Al Bateen Executive Airport, will reopen as planned at 10am on Thursday, according to an emailed  statement.

The Air Expo was cancelled on Tuesday and Wednesday due to adverse weather conditions.

In Discovery Gardens in Dubai, following waist-deep floods on Wednesday, commuters were back to work as usual, although some said using public transport was difficult.

“There are no buses. People are taking taxis. We’ve been told the buses are delayed because they couldn’t enter due to the flooding last night,” Sherry Eleazar, a resident, told Gulf News.

Roads going out of Discovery Gardens were completely blocked by water on Thursday morning, according to Twitter user Khaled Akbik.

Drainage tankers were seen removing flood waters in Discovery Gardens until late in the evening on Wednesday.

On Thursday morning, an army of Dubai Municipality workers were seen clearing the debris and sweeping off the mud in the flooded parts of the area.

Residents said floodwaters in front of Palm District Cooling had receded from waist-deep to a little more than knee-deep. Waters were still covering car tyres and reaching the chassis of saloon cars.

Heavy traffic on Shaikh Zayed Road in the Dubai to Abu Dhabi direction was being reported on social media on Thursday morning.

In Dubai Investment Park, roundabouts going to Dunes Village were still flooded on Thursday morning, Jennifer Quilay, a resident said.
