Al Ain: The weather returned to normal on Monday after a sandstorm hit the country.

The unstable weather conditions were particularly troubling for people with respiratory problems and dust allergies. Fresh and clean north-westerly winds have been blowing with decreasing speed, keeping temperatures at pleasant levels.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said the weather on Tuesday will be fair to partly cloudy in general.

Winds will be light to moderately rough but slightly stronger over the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Some two to four-feet high waves have been rising in the sea offshore.

Forecasters said the humidity level has been rising. Relative humidity will increase at night and early morning in coastal and internal areas.

It could lead to fog and people driving at these times should take precautions. Similar weather conditions are likely to continue at least for the next 48 hours, said the forecasters.

Municipalities in different towns and cities have launched clean-up operations to clear roads, highways, and streets of the sand and dust dumped by strong winds over the last two days.

"We have been removing the sand but it could take at least two days," said a worker at a cleaning company in Al Ain.

Huge amounts of sand have accumulated on highways that pass through desert areas and drivers have been urged to drive slowly on sandy patches as vehicles could skid or become unstable.

"Work is in full swing and we are doing our best to remove the sand as early as possible," said the worker.
