Dubai: There is a chance of light rain in the northern emirates on Friday thanks to increased cloud cover, the weather bureau said.

“Cloud cover will increase late on Thursday and early Friday with a small chance of rain, but it might be just a drizzle in the northern areas,” a forecaster at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) told Gulf News.

The satellite forecast on the website of NCMS shows that parts of Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah may receive light showers early Friday while the weather in the rest of the country will be mostly sunny or mostly cloudy.

A gradual drop in temperature of about 1-2 degrees Celsius will be noted starting Friday as associated with the northwesterly wind. Coastal areas will have a maximum temperature range of 22C to 25C while the interior parts will be 23C to 26C. This means Dubai will be sunny, breezy and pleasant and Abu Dhabi will be partly sunny and breezy.

Strong winds are expected over the sea causing the Arabian Gulf to be rough to very rough with wave heights of between 8ft to 10ft offshore while Oman Sea will be rough with 4ft to 7ft waves offshore. Moderate to fresh winds may kick up dust in internal and exposed areas as well.

The relative humidity is likely to increase in the night and in the morning over scattered areas, causing mist or fog to form over some of internal areas.
