Abu Dhabi: Tropical storm Ashobaa has weakened into a tropical depression, the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) announced on Friday.
The UAE’s weather forecaster said latest satellite imagery and observations, in addition to weather reports from the main regional centres, indicated that Ashobaa has been downgraded to a tropical depression, as surface wind speeds around the centre of the storm gradually decreased to around 37-61km/h.
NCMS also said the latest weather forecast charts suggested the storm would gradually weaken during the next 12 hours, while approaching the Oman coast. The storm has caused heavy rain and wind gusts in these areas.

The Sea of Oman will continue to be rough for the next 48 hours along the east coast of the UAE, with skies expected to be cloudy over these areas.
Meanwhile, NCMS advised motorists to exercise caution and reduce speed as visibility levels are expected to drop due to a dust storm.
The NCMS also advised people not to venture into the sea due to high tide in the Strait of Hormuz, north of the Sea of Oman as well as in the Arabian Gulf.
