Abu Dhabi: Women drivers in the capital can now look to park in one of the 182 pink-and-white parking bays in the capital, which have been designated specially for them.

In a statement today (August 29), the emirate’s transportation sector regulator, the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMAT), said that the special bays, located within multi-storey parking structures, will help maintain women’s privacy.

The women-only parking spaces have pink-and-white markings on the pavement for easy recognition near the multi-storey structures. For regular parking, the signage is in blue-and-white and blue-and-black markings in the capital.

According to the DMAT, the 182 ladies-only parking spots will be distributed across the city. There will be 26 spots off Hamdan Bin Zayed Street, behind Liwa Centre; 18 spots located in parking lots along Corniche Road; and another 28 spots located off Fatima Bint Mubarak Street behind Trianon Hotel.

A total of 18 spaces will be allocated behind the Health Authority Abu Dhabi and 26 bays on Liwa Street. A further 25 spots will be situated behind Al Noor Hospital on Khalifa Street, and 41 in Al Dana Area behind the offices of the Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council.

More ladies-only spots will be introduced in the future, the DMAT said.

Parking inspectors will ensure the ladies-only spots are not misused by male motorists.

“Men who violate this regulation will be fined and their vehicle towed away,” the statement added.
