Dubai: Hundreds of public buses and taxis will be dedicated to the Meydan area on Saturday to manage traffic during the Dubai World Cup even as thousands of parking spaces have been added for those who are driving to the area.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai on Thursday said it has charted a plan for managing the traffic for the 22nd edition of the Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse in collaboration with the Meydan City and Events Security Committee.

The RTA has made all necessary arrangements for managing traffic movement over eight hours on Saturday while the event is under way, starting from 4pm to midnight

Some 7,800 additional parking slots for the public have been provided so that they may park their vehicles and board any of the 150 30-seater shuttle buses deployed by the RTA in coordination with Meydan.

About 6,400 parking slots attached to Meydan Grandstand will also be available for badge holders and VIPs who are required to pass through their designated routes.

RTA has installed 19 directional signs to direct people to the events venue and the eastern parking lot opposite to the racetrack.

Around 400 taxis will be on standby initially on Saturday but that may go up to as many as 4,000 cabs, including limousines, by the event’s conclusion.

The RTA urged people attending the event to cooperate with the concerned authorities and observe traffic guidelines and follow directional signage around the venue to ensure the safety of everyone.
