Dubai: Three people died in six separate traffic accidents that took place over the weekend.

A man also drowned in Al Mamzar area on Friday, when he was swimming with his friends after sundown.

Major Ali Al Naqbi, the on-duty officer from the search and rescue department, said a young girl died and six people sustained varying injuries on Saturday in a two-car crash in Al Barsha.

He said a team headed to the scene to help cut out the injured from one of the cars.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Dubai Traffic Police, said that the car that the Emirati victim was in had swerved and hit the other car, causing the accident.

Brig Al Mazroui said that another accident on Thursday claimed the life of an Emirati man.

“The accident occurred around 9pm on Emirates Road in the Sharjah direction. A four wheel drive vehicle crashed into the back of a pick-up truck that was going slowly because of traffic,” he said.

The man in the four wheel drive vehicle died.

Also on Thursday, a similar accident took place at 11.30pm.

“A car crashed into a pick-up truck on Oud Metha road. The driver who crashed sustained severe injuries,” he said.

On Friday, an Asian man sustained serious injuries after being run over while crossing from an undesignated area.

“The man was crossing near the Emirates Road exit on the Dubai-Al Ain Road when a car hit him,” he said.

Finally, at 7.45am on Saturday, an Asian motorcycle driver died after he crashed into a pick-up truck on Mohammad Bin Zayed Road near the Dubai-Al Ain Road exit.
