Dubai:  It was a rather tiresome first day of the week for many Dubai Metro commuters as services on the red line were momentarily delayed during a rush hour on Sunday evening.

“There was a disruption that lasted for about five minutes, but the services are now back,” said one staff at the Dubai Mall metro station.

As of 6:33pm, about 50 to 100 Rashidiya-bound passengers were already queuing up inside the Dubai Mall metro station, while a huge crowd was starting to form at the gates. By 7pm, passenger traffic outside the station was fast building up.

“I’ve been waiting here for 30 minutes now. It looks like there are no trains coming,” said one Indian expatriate.

“Only passengers going to UAE Exchange can go through, please,” a staff manning the station’s gates told the passengers.

Metro personnel were seen allowing passengers to go through the gates and into the Rashidiya platform in batches.

"I can only release 50 passengers. Please don't push each other," shouted one staff managing the flow of commuters at the Rashidiya platform.

By 6:47pm, one staff told Gulf News that the services have been restored.

“The delay only lasted for about five minutes, but there are just hundreds of people passing through the Dubai Mall station, that’s why there’s a major hold up. We can’t let everyone through because the incoming trains are also packed,” the staff said.
