Dubai: Three people were injured in a crash involving three trucks that caused tailbacks as far as Ajman on Dubai-bound Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road on Tuesday morning.

Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai Traffic Police, said the accident took place at 5.15am, when a truck veered off its path and hit two other trucks — one of which was a concrete mixer truck.

The concrete mixer truck overturned and spilt the concrete mix on the road, leading the police to close down multiple lanes, he said.

The driver at fault sustained moderate injuries, while the other two drivers sustained minor injuries.

The accident caused commuters extensive delays on Tuesday morning, a Sharjah Traffic Police source said, but traffic was back to normal by 7.30am. The traffic congestion affected all Sharjah roads as well as Ajman.

Sharjah Traffic Police officials also said that four lanes were closed.

Lieutenant Saud Al Shaiba from the Traffic Awareness and Media Section of Sharjah Police, told Gulf News that an accident was reported on the highway on the Dubai-bound road and it led to major traffic jams on Sharjah’s internal roads.

“We cooperate with Dubai Police to help commuters reach their destination as quickly as possible. Traffic from Mohammad Bin Zayed Road was diverted towards Al Dhaid Road and Emirates Road. The gridlock on the roads resulted due to a truck veering out of its lane and colliding with two other trucks, one of which was loaded with concrete. This closed four lanes on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road. “The traffic congestion affected all Sharjah roads as well as Ajman,” he said.

“We reopened the main road after we received a call from Dubai Police around 8am saying that the traffic was open for motorists and they had remove the truck and the concrete from the road,” he said.

“We also used police social media channels to guide motorists on which road they can use and answered their queries,” he said.

Mohammad Khalaf, an Emirati government employee, said he used to drop his children to school in 15 minutes but yesterday (Tuesday) it took more than one and a half hours to reach the school as the traffic was horrible.

Huda Ahmad, 50, an Al Nahda resident, said that she was stuck on the Sharjah Ring Road for almost two hours, “My daughter and son had to walk to school as they had to take an exam,” she said.

In another incident in Ras Al Khaimah, a 42-year-old Emirati mother died and her three children sustained serious injuries in a car crash late on Monday.

Major Salem Burqibah, Director of Traffic and Patrols Branch at the Dagdaga police station, said the woman was driving with her three children — aged 15, 6 and 4 — when she lost control of the car, which turned over.

The accident took place on Al Saadi Road.

Police patrols and paramedics rushed to the scene and found that the mother had died on the spot. The woman’s body and her injured children were taken to hospital. The body was later handed over to her family for burial.

Major Burqibah urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and not drive in places that do not have adequate lighting
