Dubai: Roadside inspections of vehicles led to the detection of 14,784 violating heavy vehicles last year, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed.

RTA conducted 3,960 site inspections of light and heavy vehicles last year, with 36,868 vehicles tested at 11 locations across the city.

The inspections resulted in detecting 14,784 violating vehicles having 24,975 technical faults.

“Inspection processes are conducted in the context of verifying the compliance of heavy truck drivers with the prescribed loads, and ensuring that loads are properly distributed on the loading surface of the truck,” said Jamal Assada, Director of Monitoring and Enforcement at RTA’s Licensing Agency.

The campaigns also intended to check the availability of security and safety stipulations, preventive measures, vehicle’s road worthiness, validity of driving licences and vehicle registration, and the compliance with the stipulations of transporting hazardous materials.

Among the most common technical faults detected in heavy trucks last year were faulty tyres and lack of tail-lights.

“We detected 5,711 faults relating to tyres, 5,702 cases where vehicles lacked a tail-light, 4,796 faults of lacking security and safety accessories, 4,402 faults relating to unclear plates, and 2,999 cases of lacking roadworthiness in vehicles,” he added.

RTA conducted three surprise inspection campaigns last year.
